WHY?

Not About but Why?

So “I used to cough a lot”, well I did, when I was 6 months old I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and given the ever so hopeful tag of, “failure to thrive”. Luckily my parents were stubborn and wouldn’t accept that prognosis and that’s the main reason I’m hanging out of windows and faking my way through life now. Also most of this is written in past tense because back at the start of 2020 I was put on a medication that acts as a cure, as long as it’s taken twice a day, everyday. Since then I was able to start running, not coughing up blood, bi-annual hospital visits were no longer, but most importantly my life expectancy surpassed 35.

I wanted to write a Why page rather than an About page though because that’s what really matters right? Why someone does something or why things happen or even why would you hire someone like me. At Stab the word “why” quickly became the only word that mattered. We had to build the most meaningful content and answer the simple question of, “why does this matter"?”. Especially in an age of never ending beautifully produced pieces, we wanted to stand out through authenticity. Which is something I’ve been so grateful for learning and being able to take that to all of my work outside of Stab.

Since then my main goal is that every piece I make is even just a small percentage better than the last. Ever evolving and ever improving, always asking myself, why tell this story, and then showing the audience why this story is important.

If you can’t answer that simple question, then is it worth doing?
